AKA Monica Rocha
I’m a Brand & Web Designer who works with filmmakers and social impact groups struggling with low visibility and missed opportunities by crafting strategic, cinematic websites that elevate their work, impress funders/ collaborators, and streamline their pitch so they can focus on storytelling and scaling their practice.

Context: Memory Remix allows visitors to upload sound files of passed loved ones into an audio environment and remix their own voice into a new mix, creating a new memory and memorial. This innovative idea was borne from three sound therapists, Renate 艶子 Rohlfing, Justin Taylor, and Shawn Jaeger, who approached me to design this therapeutic tool.

First off, we started by building an aesthetic sensibility for the project. The clients, Renate, Justin, and Shawn, all resonated with a direction inspired by cyanotype, a centuries-old photographic process by which images are created from assembling transparencies or objects and exposing them to UV rays. It elicits a sense of newness created from what already stands, which fit the poetic description of the project. A secondary direction was integrated with another moodboard that combined particle gradients with light neon colorburn.

The interface where audio files were submitted, essentially a digital audio workstation (DAW), was designed for ease of use for people not familiar with music software. It features two tracks, one for uploading a file, and the second for recording one’s voice over it. In the center, there’s a particle audiovisualization that responds directly to the sounds being created. There's also an effect bar where visitors can play with drum samples and use a metronome to keep their creations musical yet free-form.

About Page

I also designed a library to hold these memories called the Memory Library. It’s an archive available for browsing and reviewing past submissions.

We hope that this can provide proof-of-concept for extensions of this project out in the physical world, like installations and more complex iterations. Stay tuned :)
